How we define a real discount

A percentage-off badge on Amazon is only meaningful if the reference price is real. For this list we compare the current price with the "List Price" and "Was" price Amazon shows, with the product's recent price history, and with the price other retailers charge for the same item. A deal only makes it here when the current price is a genuine low – a markdown of 30% or more off a price the product actually sold at recently. Lightning Deals, Deals of the Day, clearance markdowns and Prime-exclusive prices all qualify; inflated list prices do not.
